Frog Island Mills, Leicester

These photographs show the large complex of old textile buildings on the outskirts of Leicester town centre, in the area known as Frog Island. Apparently this area is referred to as an island as it lies between the River Soar and the Grand Union Canal. Sadly, very few textile works still operate from within this once thriving area. The Old Mill building on the edge of the canal however has thankfully been granted a new lease of life as it is occasionally used by artists to house exhibitions and events, but I think this happens rarely nowadays.

The photographs at the very bottom of the post show a ‘banner’ that someone made to (I hope) pay tribute to the area. There is a gap of around 6 months between the two sets of photographs. As far as I know, the banner is still there today, even though it was installed last year.
