The Sea: An Anthology of Maritime Photography since 1843

I have had this book knocking around for a while, and dip into it every now and again when I’m feeling nautical. The imagery contained within is quite simply amazing – it really does live up to the term ‘Anthology’. Alongisde the imagery, the book also contains detailed information about the history of maritime photography, from the initial problems of how to avoid camera shake when aboard a vessel, through to the documentation of the working lives of seamen and ending with the study of the sea (minus boats etc) as a subject in its own right.

Some of the images below are my particular highlights. I think if you click them, they should open in a larger format.

“The Sea: An Anthology of Maritime Photography since 1843” is compiled by Pierre Borhan and published by Flammarion.

It’s also half price at Amazon. Well worth the investment.
